Electronic components price rising trend, epidemic situation, speed up to break the balance of supply and demand in the industrial chain

Time:2020-04-20 Views:386
Four years ago, because of the soaring price of memory, buying and selling DRAM (dynamic random access memory) was called "a more profitable business than real estate". Four years later, the rising price of storage components seems to be making a comeback and spreading to many fields.
Since the beginning of this year, affected by the imbalance between supply and demand, the global storage chip market has begun to fluctuate, and key electronic components such as CMOS image sensors (CIS, complementary metal oxide semiconductor image sensors), passive components have also been out of stock to varying degrees.
In addition, because Japan and South Korea carry a large number of production of core components and materials in the upstream of electronics, if the epidemic can not be well controlled, industry analysis will cause a great shortage of supply for the entire electronics industry, thus further expanding the price trend.
Chen Jun, chief analyst of Qunzhi consulting, said in an interview with the first financial reporter that the epidemic has provided reasons for the price increase of many components, but in the long run, the price fluctuation still depends on whether the market demand can be met. "Affected by 5g and other factors, we judged that the production capacity was tight in the fourth quarter of last year, and the epidemic was only one of the reasons for the price increase."
Japanese and Korean epidemic accelerates price fluctuation of components
As a manufacturing power next to China, the United States, Japan and Germany, the epidemic situation of South Korea and Japan has a direct impact on the stability of the global manufacturing supply chain.
Taking storage as an example, the cost of storage in mobile phones usually reaches 25% - 35%, which has exceeded the screen and CPU, becoming the largest cost of mobile phones. Samsung and SK Hynix, two Korean manufacturers, both play an important role in the field of memory.
According to the survey of dramexchange, in the fourth quarter of 2019, Samsung ranked first in terms of global NAND brand manufacturers‘ revenue, with a market share of 35.5%; SK Hynix ranked sixth, with a market share of 9.6%. In the global DRAM factory‘s own brand memory revenue ranking in the fourth quarter of 2019, Samsung ranked first with a market share of 43.5%, SK Hynix ranked second with a market share of 29.2%.In other words, the market share of the two Korean manufacturers in NAND field has reached 45.1%, while in DRAM field, the share is as high as 72.7%.
In the report, Shengang Securities pointed out that the price of the storage market has stabilized after the data outage in Western China in July last year and the power outage at Samsung Huacheng plant at the beginning of this year. This time, affected by the epidemic, especially South Korea as a global storage center, the epidemic situation is not optimistic, which may affect the normal operation of Samsung and SK Hynix factories, thus affecting the global storage supply and leading to the price rise.
The latest quotation shows that the spot price of memory and SSD hard disk has begun to fluctuate. Taking the spot price of 8GB DDR4 standard dram as an example, it has increased by more than 10% since January, and the spot price of 4GB DDR4 standard DRAM has increased by nearly 20%.
Japanese companies play an important role in the field of semiconductor materials.
In the first five months of 2019, Japan produced 52% of the world‘s semiconductor materials. In the same period, the value of Korea‘s photoresist imported from Japan reached 110 million US dollars.
According to the report of Korea Trade Association, the dependence of Korea semiconductor and display industry on fluoropolyimide, photoresist and high purity hydrogen fluoride in Japan is 91.9%, 43.9% and 93.7%, respectively. In the silicon field, Japan‘s shinyue chemical and sumco account for 53% of the global market share. In last year‘s trade war between Japan and South Korea, Japan restricted the export of fluorinated polyimide, photoresist and high-purity hydrogen fluoride to South Korea, which caused a shock in the whole semiconductor field.
Lack of upstream capacity may continue into the middle of the year
In the view of many analysis institutions, how long the rising price of electronic components will last depends on whether the epidemic can be effectively controlled in the world on the one hand, and whether the supply of upstream capacity can meet the demand on the other hand.
